A 2002 study by Cambridge University states that around 80% of 8-year-olds can more easily identify characters on Pokémon cards than real-life animals or plants. The modern world is experiencing a Nature deficit, so “Learning outside the classroom” is not only necessary, it is urgent!
Pilot site Ciência Viva ran its 6th Teachers’ Conference Learning Outside the Classroom, this year dedicated to finding strategies to improve the well-being of the school community and their learning reflecting work taking place during New European Bauhaus Eco2-Schools project.
In addition to the conference, workshops were also held, dedicated to promoting youth motor skills, building a sensory garden in the schoolyard and creating themed trails related to geoheritage. Furthermore, there was one workshop dedicated to the development of green action plans based on nature-based solutions, inspired by Eco2schools approach. Over 100 primary and secondary school teachers attended this event.
