How pilot site Ellinogermaniki Agogi transformed their campus for sustainable education

Eco²Schools NEB|LAB pilot site EA in Greece have made profound changes in their campus. EA is redefining education by integrating its building as a vital component of its climate science lessons. The school’s infrastructure functions as a living laboratory for students that can demonstrate sustainable practices in real-time.

The school’s green transformation includes the installation of 931 solar panels which create a hugely impressive 1.5 gigawatt hours of energy each year. The school also incorporates educational projects with the panels to demonstrate the critical importance of sustainable energy to not only students but to the wider community as well.

EA’s bioclimatic canteen is designed as a zero-energy building. It generates as much energy as it consumes. The canteen implements a circular design approach where waste from refrigeration systems is repurposed to even warm the school’s swimming pool. This innovative practice reduces energy consumption sucessfully demonstating a closed-loop system.
