The implementation activities of NEB-LAB in EA received the silver award at the 2025 Education Leaders Awards in the “Cultivating Environmental Awareness & Climate Change” category. Our pilot site in Greece, Ellinogermaniki Agogi, is developing the idea of the Green School as a Laboratory of Innovation and Sustainability to raise awareness among students, their families, and the local community about the energy efficiency of buildings. Its aim is to demonstrate that a school can become an agent of community well-being through the implementation of co-creative research and innovation activities related to energy efficiency and the sustainability of natural resources in the school environment.

Based on the concept of Open Schooling, the school has developed a green action plan on the environment, nature, and climate to become a hub of innovation, increasing awareness activities among students and citizens to facilitate social innovation, promoting education and training for sustainability, contributing to the development of skills and positive behaviors for efficient energy use with respect for the environment.

As part of the “NEB-LAB” project, a large-scale pilot implementation has been carried out with many separate activities, focusing on achieving high energy efficiency and energy savings, the use of innovative and sustainable energy solutions, and the creation of “living labs” and innovation teams.

A common feature of all educational activities was the desire to create a building that inspires progressive, research-based learning and a sense of ownership among students. The vision was for the school environment to contribute to enhancing students’ enthusiasm for learning by promoting collaboration with classmates, teachers, and even the building itself.
