Call for papers! The project is publishing a special issue on ‘The Role of Schools in the New European Bauhaus’ — submission deadline is 19 October

The NEB-LAB, ECO2-SCHOOLS as New European Bauhaus Labs project, is publishing a special issue on the “The Role of Schools in the New European Bauhaus”. To this end, we are inviting proposals for papers on the following issues.

The New European Bauhaus (NEB) initiative promotes the integration of sustainability, beauty, and social inclusion into daily life and the built environment, with education playing a central role in positive change involving a community that learns by taking action. Eco²-Schools as New European Bauhaus LABs (Erasmus+ forward looking project 2023-2025) demonstrates with first, five voluntary pilot sites, that it is possible to bring best existing initiatives together considering each school can contribute and become part of a decentralized NEB-LAB; with a “core team”, a “project room”, “test activities” and support of a “chamber of quality” step in Climate education by learning-action with a “renovation Green action plan” that transforms the school environment in a visible attractive way with a by students driven continue improvement process.

Schools (universities, science centres, educational third places) can grow into Open Schooling environments (open to their environment, their neighbourhood-village); that can react more quickly to changing external environments, embrace innovations in internal organization, and ultimately improve learners’ and visitors’ educational outcomes and attitudes.

Proposed papers are expected to highlight examples of creative and sustainable teaching methods, such as blended learning, outdoor class, worksite, school, inspiring creative experimental renovation of spaces, that involve Youth, teachers and families into the critical thinking and cooperative skills we need in the community for adaptation to accelerated Climate change.

They can show with concrete (even small) examples how educational organizations can act as drivers for the development of green neighbourhood “living labs” (designing project-based, experiential learning led by schools with parents, local businesses, the wider community), enlighten how a shared positive feeling can bring local communities to become change agents of a desirable transformation, making the New European Bauhaus (NEB) initiative a reality.
